Ivigtut
An abandoned Cryolite mining town in south Greenland located in the Arsuk Fjord. For 130 year this was an active mining town until it’s closure in 1987. Many unique minerals are still to be found in the Ivigtut area.
Some of the houses are still used today as summer cottages for rent.
Ivigtut and the closest settlement Kangilinnguit are the only two settlements in Greenland connected by road. A 5 kilometer long road leads to the naval base Kangilinnguit also in the Arsuk fjord.
