The Greenland ice-cap is huge, really huge. To be exact 2.380 km from south Greenland to north Greenland and 1.100 km from the west coast to the east coast. To compare the size, imagine a chunk of ice covering the entire east-coast of the United States from Key West in Florida right up to the border at Toronto Canada, and this chunk of ice is 2-3 km thick. Yes, it’s not a typing error. It’s over 3.000 meters thick. That is eight Empire State buildings on top of each other. That’s a lot ice.
The largest national park in the world was laid out in 1974 by the Danish parliament in north east Greenland. It covers almost a million square kilometers. The park is home to the largest population of musk ox in the world.
Greenland is a huge island 2.170.000 km2 with two-third of the country covered in a permanent ice-cap 2-3 km thick. From Kap Farvel in the south to Kap Morris Jesup in the north the country spans amazing 2670 km, but we are only 56.000 people. The top of Greenland is very close to the north pole, only 730 km to the top of the world.
