narsarsuaq
Narsarsuaq
Small settlement located on the southern west coast of Greenland. Narsarsuaq is inhabited by 158 people, mainly working at the airport.
The airport was build in 1941 by USA and was named Bluie West One. During world war 2 the airport was used as stepping stone for refueling on their way to Europe. In 1958 the americans abandoned the base and was taken over by Danish government.
The small settlement and sheep farm Qassiarsuk lies just across the fjord visible from Narsarsuaq. This was where Erik the Red settled a thousand years ago and named it Brattahlíð.
