Qassiarsuk
Small sheep farm located in the Tunulliarfik fjord just across the Narsarsuaq settlement in south Greenland. Qassiarsuk was the location where Erik The Red settled a thousand years ago and was originally named Brattahlíð.
Many of the ruins from the time of Erik The Red is still visible today, as well as some ancient eskimo ruins. A reproduction of the Brattahlíð church has been build and a statue of Erik The Red also stands on the hill above Qassiarsuk settlement looking out at the fjord.
The sheep farm was founded in 1924 by Otto Frederiksen as the first of it’s kind in Greenland and is populated by 90 inhabitants. The farm holds around 8.500 sheep and produces 150.000 kg annually of meat.
