The towns and settlements of Greenland are widely spread along the west-coast and few settlements along the east-coast. The only way to get from one town to another is by air or ship. There are no roads or train tracks connecting the towns, because of the distance between the towns and the mountainous terrain. Even if there were roads between the towns, it would impossible to keep clean from snow and ice during the winter.
Most of the towns are interconnected by daily flights, and by ship a couple of times a week. Nuuk is the capital of Greenland and the fastest growing town. The Greenland home-rule government is placed in Nuuk. The capital has 15.600 inhabitants.
