Small settlement in west Greenland, just north of the town of Uummannaq located on the Nuussuaq Peninsula.
Only 52 people live in Niaqornat who lives mainly from fishing and hunting. The settlement is surrounded by the beuatiful mountains of the Nuussuaq Peninsula.
The settlement lies in between two steep rocky hills on the beach. Few years back a large rock rolled down one of the hills and went straight through the local store. Luckily no one was injured.
Niaqornat was visited by The Queen of Denmark Magrethe and Prince Henrik in July 2011, together with the Prime Minister of Greenland Kuupik Kleist. They were received on the beach by the local population with a special song of Niaqornat, Nuna Niaqornat Uannut.
