Welcome to Sisimiut

Situated in central west Greenland. Sisimiut was founded in 1756. The town has just over 5.600 inhabitants, making it the second largest town in Greenland.

Sisimiut has the best of Greenland to offer. Perfect for hiking, fishing, hunting, dog sledding, snowmobiling, skiing and sailing.

To visit Sisimiut, you need to fly to Kangerlussuaq first and then take a domestic flight to Sisimiut, because there are no roads connecting the international airport in Kangerlussuaq with Sisimiut or any other towns in Greenland.  The flight from Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut is just a 25 minutes flight.

The town is unique with its many steep roads. Its also the southernmost town in Greenland where greenlandic sled-dogs are allowed.

It’s not only the roads in the town that are steep. So is the approach angle to the runway in Sisimiut airport because of the minimum altitude restrictions when passing over populated area. A very exiting landing approach.
